DUBLINBIKES EXPANSION TO GO AHEAD [RUMOUR]

Today I heard a rumour that number of DublinBike docking stations is to increase from 101 to 116 and that 100 extra bikes are to be added to the 1,580 bikes already in operation and as part of this expansion nine stations  will be located around Grangegorman where the DIT campus is still under construction.

Last August it was announced that he planned expansion of the Dublin Bikes rental scheme to the new DIT campus at Grangegorman has been put on hold because of a lack of funds to finance the current service let alone the expansion of the system. According to various reports in local newspapers The National Transport Authority (NTA) contacted the then minister for transport Paschal Donohoe outlining plans for 15 new bike stations which would allow the rental scheme to be extended to Grangegorman. The NTA advised the minister that the scheme would be in place by September/October of 2016. However, within weeks, Dublin City Council claimed it could not afford to run the extended service, which was already operating at a loss.

I do not yet know what has changed in order to allow the 2016 plan go ahead.
