UNIVERSITY OF ULSTER BELFAST CAMPUS

Belfast is currently divided into quarters and I suspect that this is not a good idea as the end result is a collection of single purpose areas that are in effect ghettoes. An example in Belfast is the Queens Quarter which has over time become totally dependent on revenues generated by a transient student population. If one walks around the area it soon becomes obvious obvious that that the area is a bit of a social disaster. Unfortunately the same thing could easily happen in the area of Dublin 1 that is close to the New Grangegorman Campus where at least 23 Student Accommodation Complexes will be constructed between now and 2020.

The University Of Ulster Belfast campus is situated in the artistic and cultural centre of Belfast which is known as the Cathedral Quarter. Although traditionally associated with Art, the campus spans an increasing and exciting range of subjects including architecture, hospitality, event management, photography and digital animation.

The recently redeveloped campus comprises two connected buildings on either side of York Street and includes:

purpose-built design spaces
studios for recording and editing live and off-air television, sound recording, mixing and animation
teaching and exhibition areas
library

A campus is traditionally the land on which a college or university and related institutional buildings are situated. Usually a college campus includes libraries, lecture halls, residence halls, student centres or dining halls, and park-like settings.

A modern campus is a collection of buildings and grounds that belong to a given institution, either academic or non-academic. Examples include the Googleplex and the Apple Campus.

A campus university is a British term for a university situated on one site, with student accommodation, teaching and research facilities, and leisure activities all together. It is derived from the Latin term campus, meaning "a flat expanse of land, plain, field".

From what I have seen the University Complex at York Street is a collection of buildings rather than a campus.
