BREXIT UPDATE FROM ENDA KENNY
I have travelled here to the Hague in the Netherlands today to meet with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Danish Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen in the context of Brexit and its potential implications for our three countries.
It is in fact these three countries which are potentially the most vulnerable to be impacted in terms of Brexit. It of course makes sense for us to meet ahead of the next European Council meeting in order to discuss our approach and position. The next meeting of the European Council is scheduled to take place in Brussels at the end of the month.
I also spoke to British Prime Minister Theresa May this week following her announcement that she will hold an election in June. We once again discussed various issues of importance to Ireland in the context of Brexit and expressed the wish that an Executive should be formed in Stormont in the coming weeks. Naturally, I will continue to keep in close contact with the Prime Minister in the weeks ahead.
