CAPEL STREET

    CAPEL STREET IN DUBLIN

CAPEL STREET – THIS IS EFFECTIVELY MY LOCAL HIGH STREET AND I LIKE IT

Capel street is unusual in that it has very few shops that are not independent and there is an interesting selection of restaurants with Mr. Dinh being my favourite.

According to some Dubliners that I know Capel Street was once a fashionable Dublin address. Back then, before O’Connell Bridge existed, mansions lined a salubrious strip stretching towards City Hall. Over the centuries it became developed into a commercial hub but it declined for much of the second half of the 20th century.

There is much change on the way especially as there will be a number of large new hotels and student accommodation complexes in the area within the next year or two … one will be the ‘Bullit Hotel’. Also it is expected that the new Grangegorman College Campus will have a major impact on the area.
