Enough Is Enough – Protest Organised For Wednesday
September 29th sees the politicians return to ‘work’ after their summer holidays. We’ll be there to meet them with our ‘Make The Rich Pay’ protest.
The European Trade Union Confederation has named Wednesday 29th September as the date for European wide action under the title ‘No to Austerity – Priority for Jobs and Growth’.
The Irish Congress of Trade Unions has called for a Dublin march from Anglo-Irish Bank at 12.30pm, going to the Dail. In Belfast ICTU and the Stop the Cuts Alliance will be demonstrating at Belfast City Hall on the day.
A major protest is planned for Brussels that day and a general strike will be taking place in Spain. It is likely that most other national trade union confederations who were party to the ETUCdecision in naming this date will observe it with actions in their own countries.
ICTU has not exactly gone out of its way to publicise this. So a group of socialist organisations and trade unionists has come together to leaflet and poster for the event, and to be an alternative voice to the compromise and surrender of most trade union leaders. Among those involved are the Workers Solidarity Movement, Socialist Party, Workers Party, CPSU Activist Group and members of about a dozen unions.
March with us on Wednesday. They didn’t share the wealth, why should we "share the pain"?
